Jupiter conjunct the Moon in Aquarius usually indicates a chaotic childhood and, more specifically, an erratic mother. Norma Jean Baker lived with foster parents until her mentally unstable mother (who had earlier attempted to smuggle her away from her foster parents in a duffle bag) bought a house and brought her daughter back to live with her as transiting Saturn made a series of three oppositions to her descendant in 1933. Norma Jean (Marilyn) recalled that her mother had several episodes of screaming and laughing fits which led to her being institutionalised.

Norma Jean was made a ward of the state with her mother’s best friend becoming her guardian. Her guardian told the young Norma Jean that one day she would become a lm star and this stage of her childhood was lled with visits to the cinema and appointments to have her hair curled. When Norma Jean was nine however, the guardian married a man who later made several attempts to sexually assault the young girl in 1937 just after Saturn made a series of conjunctions to her natal Mars in Pisces. Both transiting Saturn and Jupiter made a number of conjunctions to Norma Jean’s natal planets in 1942 when she met and married her first husband. This was probably the only stable time of her life even though, at fifteen, she was under the legal age for marriage. In 1944, transiting Jupiter in Leo made a series of conjunctions to her natal Neptune and shortly afterwards, she was noticed as a beauty and the first photographs of her were taken. It was during her time as a model, after some experimentation, that she changed her name to the alliterative Marilyn Monroe. In 1946, as transiting Jupiter was opposite her Venus, her divorce was finalised. In 1947, as she searched for film work, she posed nude for pictures as transiting Jupiter in Scorpio was conjunct her Saturn.

As Saturn in Leo was conjunct her natal Neptune in 1947, she had her slight overbite corrected and  later that year, when Jupiter made contact, she was persuaded to have a minor nose job. In March 1952, Jupiter made two squares to her natal Pluto and she was forced to explain her nude photos to the public. Fortunately, the public was sympathetic. Later that year, as Jupiter was conjunct her natal Venus was when her career really began to take off. She appeared in Life magazine and began dating the baseball player Joe DiMaggio.

In September 1954, transiting Saturn opposed her MC at the time when DiMaggio protested what would become one of her most celebrated scenes, her skirt blowing upwards as a subway train passed. In 1955, just before transiting Jupiter crossed over her ascendant in Leo, the movie e Seven Year Itch was released to the public, but by this time she had already divorced DiMaggio.

In 1956, she admitted her marriage to James Dougherty had made her consider suicide as Jupiter in Leo was conjunct her natal Neptune. It was also the year she converted to Judaism in order to marry the playwright Arthur Miller. In 1961, as both transiting Saturn and Jupiter made numerous squares to her natal planets, they divorced. Jupiter made its last conjunction to its natal place as Marilyn performed“Happy Birthday, Mr President” for JFK.

Marilyn died during a series of three transiting Jupiter squares to her Moon in Aquarius.

About the New Book

There are two dogs fighting inside of me, the old story goes, one dog is good and the other is evil. “But Grandfather,” asked the child, “Which one wins?” The Grandfather answered, “The dog I feed.”

We might like to think that being good is a natural instinct. In fact, doing the right thing takes a conscious decision. Every day, we are met with temptation to get ahead at the expense of someone else, to get away with something we know is wrong or to cut corners if we think no one is watching.

Following on from her powerful book on astrology and Education, “Growing Pains”, Alex Trenoweth explores the benefits of using “the bad guy” of the solar system: Saturn. Often avoided and seldom understood, if we understand our own Saturn then we can help others to understand theirs. Using case studies of  highly successful people contrasted with convicted serial killers, Trenoweth deftly demonstrates the dire consequences of feeding the wrong dog.
