What is the Charlie Charlie Challenge? To us oldies but goodies, it's a stupid game that trended over the weekend. It's not unlike the stupid games we used to play like Bloody Mary or daring each other to look under the bed when the lights are out. Here's how it goes. . .
Step 1: Start recording on whatever device is handyStep 2: Draw an X on a piece of paper
Step 3: Label two of the resulting quadrants “no,” and the other two “yes.”Step 4: Place two overlapping pencils on each axis of your grid, crossing them in the middle.
Step 5: Ask "Charlie Charlie, are you there?" to summon the "demon"
Here's a funny compilation of kids acting stoopid. . .
It can be difficult for adults to remember they once did or believed in stupid stuff. It can be even harder to remember that to interfere with said stupidity is almost a sure guarantee the kids will only resort to doing stupid stuff in secrecy--which is far more dangerous than doing it under your nose. All things said, the #CharlieCharlieChallenge is far less dangerous that the Cinnamon Challenge that was all the rage a few years ago.
I'm often asked by parents if there is anything astrological about internet crazes and I'm pleased (or very scared) to say there is.
If you are familiar with my work, you will know there is something called the Jupiter Return at about the age of 11-12 (it varies from child to child and from year to year). This marks the time of The Great Adventure to a secondary school. For a few years after this, the child essentially becomes interested in pushing boundaries and culminates in quite frankly outrageous behaviour towards the end of Year 9 (10th grade for our American friends). This is the result of a whacking good dose of a Uranus sextile (the first Ptolemaic aspect to an outer planet) as well as an extra boost of Jupiter also by way of sextile. During this time, kids will do stupid stuff that has their teachers pulling their hair out and parents hiding in the bedrooms waiting for the storm to pass.
I'd like to say it will all blow over with the first Saturn Opposition but like other astrological factors, that also varies from person to person.
And about that first Uranus sextile? The trine at 27 is the common denominator of the infamous Club of 27 that finished off Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse. Try to bind up that rebellious energy and it just explodes at some later point in life. Let kids be kids. Keep them safe (just don't them know you're watching) but don't stifle their creativity.
